I knew someone was going to mention that eventually...
While it is an interesting possibility, I don't think that the Patriots are interested in Culpepper. They jumped the gun inviting Chris Simms and Tim Rattay out there just to send them packing. I gather from that info that there was some kind of miscommunication or uncertainty but that the Patriots had decided to go with Cassel.
If Randy Moss starts to quit on them (and poor play by Cassel), they might look at Dante Culpepper, but even then, someone like Testaverde might come up first.
