Texans Will Have FA RB Cedric Benson By For A Workout

The Texans will work out free agent RB Cedric Benson this week. Miller_time should have an interesting WW article this week. After a 76 yard rushing effort the Texans will have Cedric Benson stop by. Shawn Alexander is also out there.

They are working out free agent backs, but according to the Chronicle, these backs won't include Alexander or Benson:

Non-Surprise: Ahman Green is Hurt...Again - NFL FanHouse

So, basically, Green has a hurt ankle. They haven't said how bad. Green gets roster bonuses for each game he is on the roster as of the second game of the season.

If he can't play, then Darius Walker will come off the practice squad. He looked okay in limited minutes last year.

The Texans are a team that NEEDS to be able to run. They have lightish linemen for their ZBS and really aren't designed to be a pass setting up the run team. The Texans QBs had 22 sacks in all of last year, but had 5 last week.

They haven't quite figured out Gibbs scheme, and they have three new players on their line. Plus a running back group that is now, a bunch of inexperienced guys. And facing the Ravens.

With Ike in the gulf and its destination uncertain, the Texans aren't even assured of a home game this week. They will likely be announcing hurricane plans by Thursday or Friday.

But if they do, check out this info I put together on how the Texans play after blow out losses in the Kubiak era:

The Chronicle asked me to restart my Texans blog. It will be one of the few blogs there that is entirely Texans focused, and well, the only one where I agree with all the analysis.

They haven't announced, but I'm guessing they will do what they did in the preseason with Green/Brown being hurt.

They will split carries between Slaton and Taylor. If they do this, it is likely Walker will be activated too, because Taylor also functions as a backup fullback. The FB is very important for this offense to function.

Also possible that Green isn't that hurt and they are going to put him on the roster for the game until he gets another boo boo.
