Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Bucs

Carolina RB DeAngelo Williams rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers knocked off the Buccaneers, 31-23, in Week 17 last year. Tampa Bay was resting many of its starters in advance of the playoffs. The Panthers have won three of the past four matchups to claim a 9-6 overall series lead. Panthers QB Jake Delhomme is 7-1 vs. the Buccaneers in his career

The 4-1 Panthers lead the division with the Bucs right behind them at 3-2 in an important divisional game. Both teams feature top RB combos in Williams/Stewart and Dunn/Graham. The Panthers passing attack is more stable as the Bucs have been doing some QB shuffling this year.

Jeff Garcia, who opened the season as the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback, might get his job back Sunday against Carolina. Starter Brian Griese injured his right elbow in last week’s loss to the Broncos and did not participate in practice all week.

Injury report: Panthers

Doubtful

  • WR D.J. Hackett (knee)
  • C Ryan Kalil (ankle)
Questionable

  • T Jordan Gross (concussion)
  • T Jeff Otah (ankle)
  • S Quinton Teal (ankle)
  • DT Darwin Walker (thigh)

  • RB B.J. Askew (hamstring)
  • WR Joey Galloway (foot)

New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns

Kurt Warner passed for 286 yards to lead the Giants past the Browns, 27-10, in 2004. The Giants have taken the last four meetings to trim the Browns' overall series lead to 25-19-2.

The 4-0 Giants will roll into Cleveland to roll the 1-3 Browns. Seriously folks, The Browns do come off a bye week and hopefully can show some improvement on the O side.

The Browns traded for Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams in the offseason, but thus far the duo has failed to answer the team's problems stopping the run. Against New York's top-ranked rushing offense, Rogers and Williams need to start earning there pay as this is the top rushing O.

Hixon who was Burress' backup had a nice game when he got the start. It will be interesting to see if he just becomes a back up again or if they try to work him into the 3rd WR rotation.

The Browns TE Kellen Winslow has been in the hospital with swollen nads, I kid you not, It was hopeful that he would be released and practice Friday. This didn't happen but there is a chance that he could play but you should check the Sunday inactives. Game Time Decision

Giants LB Antonio Pierce is listed as questionable for their game against the Browns because of a hurt quadriceps, but expects to play. “I will never miss a game unless I am on IR, so I’ll be there,” Pierce said Friday.

Injury report: Giants

Questionable

  • LB Antonio Pierce (quadriceps)
Probable

  • WR Domenik Hixon (concussion)
  • DE Jerome McDougle (knee)
  • T Kareem McKenzie (concussion)

Injury report: Browns

Questionable

  • S Sean Jones (knee)
  • T Kevin Shaffer (concussion)
  • DE Shaun Smith (hand)
  • G Ryan Tucker (hip)
  • TE Kellen Winslow (illness)

Probable

  • S Mike Adams (foot)
  • DT Shaun Rogers (shoulder)
  • WR Donte’ Stallworth (quadricep)

Dallas Cowboys@ Arizona Cardinals

Tony Romo threw two touchdowns and Marion Barber ran for another as the Cowboys rolled past the host Cardinals, 27-10, in Week 10 of 2006. The Cowboys have won three consecutive games and lead the all-time series 55-27-1.

The 4-1 Cowboys will visit the 3-2 Cardinals this week. This could be one of those banana peel games for the Cowboys. Things are looking good but not real good. Nice record, playing pretty good, but the running game isn't quite there right now. This running game should be taking it to the competition but the carries aren't there even though the production is. A more balanced attack is called for, or hasn't been called the last couple of weeks.

The Cardinals on the other hand run well but not spectacular. They have a great passing attack. WR Boldin isn't making the bell this week but favorite Fantasy WW pickup WR Steve Breaston will see plenty of action and has performed well. The Cowboys secondary is also missing CB Neuman and a couple of safeties.

Just a note for those of you in big dynasy leagues with large rosters. Rookie WR Early Doucet was drafted with the idea that he would be doing what Breaston is doing right now. An TC injury kept Doucet from being all he could be. He is now healthy and had 6 catches for 42 yards last week. Which may just be the reason that Breaston didn't quite but up the game you expected. Keep an eye on him.

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told the NFL Network that Anquan Boldin will take this week and the Week 7 bye to recover from facial bone surgery. Boldin was hit in the end zone in the Cards’ Week 4 loss to the Jets.

Injury report: Cowboys

Out

  • G Kyle Kosier (foot)
  • CB Terence Newman (abdomen)
  • S Pat Watkins (neck)
  • S Roy Williams (forearm)
Probable

  • RB Deon Anderson (knee)
  • DE Stephen Bowen (hamstring)
  • C Andre Gurode (ankle)
  • DT Tank Johnson (ankle)
  • TE Jason Witten (shoulder)

Injury report: Cardinals

Out

  • WR Anquan Boldin (head)
Doubtful

  • TE Ben Patrick (knee)
Questionable

  • DE Bert Berry (groin)
  • CB Eric Green (groin)
  • LB Clark Haggans (groin)
  • CB Roderick Hood (groin)
  • TE Jerame Tuman (hamstring)
  • S Adrian Wilson (hamstring)
Probable

  • TE Leonard Pope (ankle)

Miami Dolphins @ Houston Texans

Houston's Kris Brown kicked three field goals measuring at least 50 yards to give the Texans a 22-19 win in Week 5 of last season. The Texans have won all three meetings with the Dolphins.

The 2-2 Dolphins are coming to town to visit the 0-4 Texans. The Dolphins have turned things around and put up a couple of very impressive victories.
The Texans while winless have played some good ball taking the Jags and Colts to the brink before finding a way to blow it. This should be a bigger battle than the records suggest.

The Dolphins have been riding the reemergence of RB Ronnie Brown who has been aided by some Razorback/ McFaddy type schemes. Maybe the Raiders should try this as they have the actual McFadddy. The Dolphins D has been playing well and the coaching staff is making excellent half time adjustments. This has been born out by the fact that the Dolphins this year have outscored their opponetts 24-0 in the 3rd quarter.

The Texans have been producing well but just haven't put a whole game together at one time yet. They are a dangerous team without a victory. Overlooked in Houston's 0-4 start is the play of rookie RB Steve Slaton, who has recorded 336 yards and three touchdowns in the last three weeks. Slaton's power, combined with his abilities as a receiver, have made him one of the more exciting players to watch through five weeks.

Note: Houston Texans RB Chris Taylor will be out for the second straight week with a quadriceps injury.

Injury report: Dolphins

Questionable

  • LB Reggie Torbor (hip)

Injury report: Texans

Out

  • LB Dominique Barber (hamstring)
  • TE Mark Bruener (hamstring)
  • RB Chris Taylor (quadricep)
Probable

  • LB Xavier Adibi (illness)
  • LB Kevin Bentley (ankle)
  • S Will Demps (hamstring)
  • S Nick Ferguson (illness)
  • LB DeMeco Ryans (ankle)
  • P Matt Turk (illness)

Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons

In a game that was played under bitter cold conditions with a windchill of minus-3, the Bears forced three turnovers and led the way in a 16-3 defeat of the Falcons on Dec. 18, 2005. The Bears have won eight of the past nine matchups to turn what was a stark deficit in the all-time series into a 12-10 lead.

In a matchup of surprisingly good teams the 3-2 Bears head down to Atlanta to take on the 3-2 Falcons. Both have great running games with solid passing attacks based on caretaker Style QBs.

The Bears have a tough D to go along with their attacking O. The Bears QB Kyle Orton has developed into a boardline starter in large leagues as he is allowed to attack more in that O as the season has gone on. RB Forte is a good back that also presents a great Red Zone receiving option.

The Falcons D is not as tough but does present a decent front 7. No one will say they are a top D but they can hold the game in hand long enough for there weapons to take over. The Falcons runnning attack features features Turner the Burner a long with Norwood who provides some zip to the rushing atttack. QB Ryant Grant as a rookie ha been a great caretaker QB. Not a viable option except in the largest of leagues he is a little like Garrard was last year. He won't get you many points but he doesn't make many mistakes, so far. The Bears D will be a big test. Turner does his best work in odd numbered weeks while WR Roddy White likes scoring his Tds at home. White got his Bell rung last week and was never cleared to practice all week. He may be cleared to play in the game but you should check the inactives before the game. Game Time Decision.

After missing Chicago’s Week 5 win over Detroit, WR Brandon Lloyd — the Bears’ leading receiver with 249 yards — is doubtful for the matchup against Atlanta Sunday. he has missed practice all week and is not expected to play, Hester probably benifits the most from this if Lloyd doesn't go.

Injury report: Bears

Doubtful

  • WR Brandon Lloyd (knee) - OUT - Devin Hester will start
Questionable

  • DT Anthony Adams (ankle)
  • LB Nick Roach (shoulder)
  • CB Nathan Vasher (wrist)
Probable

  • DT Marcus Harrison (knee)

Injury report: Falcons

Doubtful

  • DT Jason Jefferson (ankle)
  • WR Laurent Robinson (knee)
Questionable

  • DT Grady Jackson (knee)
  • C Todd McClure (calf)
  • TE Justin Peelle (knee)
  • WR Roddy White (head)
Probable

  • T Todd Weiner (knee)
  • G Ben Wilkerson (chest)

Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings

Adrian Peterson scored two touchdowns as the host Vikings rolled past the Lions, 42-10, in Week 13 of the 2007 season. The Vikings have won 11 of their past 12 meetings with the Lions, and lead the all-time series 61-30-2.

The winless (0-4) Lions head for the dome to play the 2-3 Vikings this week.

While The Vikings should consider this a bit of a blessing this week The Lions are a divisional opponent and as such the game is an important one. The Vikes can't afford to take any team lightly at this point. While the Vikes have a great rushhing attack it has been tempered by the passing attack which is weak. The D is starting to show some life and needs to grab a bigger chunk of the action at this point.

Both WR corps are beat up which doesn't help the QBing at all.

The Lions are beat up pretty bad at the QB position which detracts from their biggest stregth the WR corp. The Lions D doesn't appear horrible on paper but gives up large chunks of points early making any thought of a balanced gameplan moot. If the Lion QBs keep taking a beating we may have a sighting of QB Drew Stanton who has just returned to practice this week.

Lions QB Jon Kitna left last week’s game in the fourth quarter with back spasms and is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Vikings. He didn’t participate in practice this week but his backup, Dan Orlovsky, is battling an ankle injury and was limited in practice all week as well.

Orlovsky STARTS

Injury report: Lions

Doubtful

  • QB Jon Kitna (back)
  • G Stephen Peterman (hand)
Questionable

  • CB Travis Fisher (knee)
  • WR Calvin Johnson (knee)
  • WR Roy Williams (hip)
Probable

  • TE Casey Fitzsimmons (elbow)
  • QB Dan Orlovsky (ankle)

Injury report: Vikings

Doubtful

  • S Madieu Williams (neck)
Questionable

  • WR Bernard Berrian (knee)
  • LB Erin Henderson (concussion)
  • WR Sidney Rice (knee)
  • CB Benny Sapp (hamstring)
Probable

  • LB Vinny Ciurciu (concussion)
  • DE Ray Edwards (shoulder)

New England Patriots @ San Diego Chargers

The Patriots took advantage of an ailing Chargers team and advanced to Super Bowl XLII with a 21-12 victory in last season's AFC Championship Game. Thirteen of the last 15 matchups have gone New England's way and the Patriots have ousted the Chargers from the playoffs in each of the past two seasons. They own a 20-14-2 overall series edge.

A matchup of two struggling teams right??? What a minute.

The Patriots at 3-1 can't really be called a struggling team. Despite an awkward showing at home vs the Dolphins they are doing what needs to be done. Last week, the first half of this west coast trip they beat the over hyped niners winning a game that they were supposed to win which is what good teams do. Part Two of the West Coast road trip is visiting the struggling Chargers. Are the Pats up to this task? This is probably the tougher test and should provide a tougher test. Cassel is starting to show signs of maybe being a caretaker that is slowly developing into a weapon.

The Chargers are a dangerous team that is struggling at 2-3. This should be a great battle on the nighttime stage. They need the game badly and this is the second week that the Pats wil spend on the west coast which has to be taxing for the Pats.

Chargers WR Chris Chambers, who injured his ankle in last week’s loss to the Dolphins, is listed as doubtful for Sunday night’s contest against the defending AFC champs. SD WR Chambers is the main injury concern in this game. He did not practice all week and most sources list him as very unlikely to play. He is an added risk as it is hard to try and keep a slot open for him since this is a Sunday night game.

Injury report: Patriots

Doubtful

  • LB Eric Alexander (hamstring)
  • RB LaMont Jordan (calf)
  • WR Kelley Washington (ankle)
Questionable

  • RB Laurence Maroney (shoulder)
  • CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring)

Injury report: Chargers

Doubtful

  • WR Chris Chambers (ankle)
  • LB Jyles Tucker (hamstring)
Probable

  • CB Antonio Cromartie (hip)
  • WR Vincent Jackson (knee)
  • RB Mike Tolbert (ankle)
  • RB LaDainian Tomlinson (toe)

Green Bay Packers @ Seatlle Seahawks

Brett Favre threw three touchdown passes and Ryan Grant ran for three scores as the Packers advanced to the 2007 NFC Championship Game with a 42-20 win over the Seahawks at snowy Lambeau Field. The Packers lead the all-time series, 8-5, including two playoff wins.

The Packers 2-3 roll into Seattle to play the struggling Seahawks at 1-3. This is a hard game to get a handle on. Hassleback sounds very iffy for the game and it sounds like Koren Robinson may be called on to start. It is a game that is really like two different games in one. The unhealty Seattle O faces the unhealthy Packer D. In the other game the healthy Seattle D faces a healthy Packer O. This matchup usually produces some entertaining games, this one, who knows?

Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, who hurt his right knee in last week’s loss to the Giants, did not participate in Friday’s practice and watched backup Charlie Frye take most of the reps.

Injury report: Packers

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets

In Week 7 of last season, Bengals running back Kenny Watson recorded 130 rushing yards and a career-high three touchdowns in a 38-31 home win over the Jets. The Jets have beaten the Bengals five out of the last six times, and lead the overall series, 12-7.

Bengals QB Carson Palmer is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s contest vs. the Jets, but coach Marvin Lewis saidback up Ryan Fitzpatrick will make the fifth start of his career. Palmer injured his elbow in Week 3 against the Giants, missed Week 4 vs. the Browns and nearly led the Bengals to an upset of the Cowboys last week.

St. Louis Rams @ Washington Redskins

In Week 16 of 2006, Steven Jackson totaled 252 yards from scrimmage, scoring once through the air and once on the ground in a 37-31 defeat of the Redskins. The Redskins have beaten the Rams three out of the last four times, and lead the overall series, 20-7-1.

Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints

The Saints defeated the host Raiders, 31-26, in 2004. The Raiders lead the all-time series, 5-4-1, and the teams have split two games since 2000.

Saints WR Marques Colston is questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders. Saints coach Sean Payton has been encouraged with the progress of Colston, who took part in a limited portion of practice for the third consecutive day on Friday as he continues to recover from a torn thumb ligament.

Colston is inactive

Philadelphia Eagles @ San Franciso 49ers

Brian Westbrook scored three touchdowns to lead the Eagles past the host 49ers, 38-24, in Week 3 of the 2006 season. The Eagles have won three out of the last four, but the 49ers lead the all-time series 17-9-1 (including one playoff game).

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid announced during his press conference on Friday that running back Brian Westbrook (rib, ankle), guard Shawn Andrews (back) and wide receiver Reggie Brown (groin) will not play in Sunday’s contest against the San Francisco 49ers.

Westbrook fractured two ribs in last week’s loss to the Redskins. Reid believes he can use this week and the bye week to fully heal.
“Brian wants to go,” said Reid. “He’s in the mindset that he wants to play, but it’s a decision that I’ve got to make. He’s a tough nut and I know that. I’ve got to do what I think is best for him and the football team down the road. It made the decision a little easier for me than it is for him. Obviously, he wants to contribute and compete.”
