Brett Favre coaches Romo on playing hurt

All I have to say is I can see Romo doing something as dumb as trying to come back for TB with a hurt finger. Romo received a call from Favre to coach him about playing through his injuries. I would make the arguement that playing with a hurt finger is easier then getting the ball popped into your hand every snap from center with a hurt thumb. As I also understand throwing mechaniques- the pinkie is just a stabilizer with the index and pointer finger providing spin and accuracy. Opinions or comments?

I think there is people in the Dallas front office who would like to strangle Brett right now.

This little break is going to be good for Tony. He needs to sit on the sideline and watch a vet throw the ball away and go with his check down for a while. I think the front office knows this too.

In Romo's case, it is also important to understand that his throwing style puts alot of importance on the use of that finger. Part of his throwing motion includes a "wrist flipping" motion, which requires him to use the pinkie to actually grip the football during part of the motion.

No use of that finger means that the ball can't be thrown accurately. If he can't throw the ball accurately, he is a liability on the field and has no business being out there.

Not sure the two situations are in any way related, but whatever.

Thumbs up

I thought Brett's call was nothing but encouragement. He didn't tell him he had to tough it out. He said something like, "do what you can, and if you can make it work....fine. If you can't function effectively, get it fixed. Either way, you are one hell of a football palyer and don't let anybody tell you differently."

The one thing I am sure he said to him was, "no matter what the position, you are a top 5 FOOTBALL PLAYER OVERALL in the NFL." It was encouragement to a young man that Favre has alot of affection for. It was a class act, from a great old player, for a great young player!

You are right about him needing a some time off. He is playing skiddish in the pocket and not even completing all his reads before dumping off short. We don't need him against St. Louis. We do need him agains't TB and Gnats. Give him the week off, his finger needs it. Then he can try to play stupid..I mean hurt.

Just read the NFL blog- hopefully Dallas' coaching staff has enough brains to make him sit at least a couple weeks. Romo has been warned that the fractured pinkie could become a dislocated fracture and require season ending surgery if he harms it further. Hopefully that throws a cold blanket on any thoughts of herioc returns. Again Dallas can beat St. Louis and they may even hold a 50-50 chance of beating TB, hard to say the way TB's defense is playing. Wait for the Giants young man, wait for the Giants, if you HAVE to come back before the bye.

AGAIN, a note from the Dallas organization to Brett Favre : Mind your own business old man!!

Romo needs to sit to heal his hand and to get his mind right. Even if it's just for 1 week. Dallas should be able to beat St Louis without him and it will do him some good.

So Brett.. stay out of it!!

Romo now 75% chance of playing this weekend. Jerry Jones says hes all for Romo playing but the final call is up to Phillips.

Now lets see how much power Ole Wade has.

"Hey Romo, this is Brett. You may know me though as the legend, or perhaps the greatest QB ever. As such, I know what it takes to play through things like injuries. Here's what you do: go bang Jessica Simpson a few times, do some push ups, then GROW A PAIR OF BALLS!!!"

My take on that phone call went.
