Matt Leinart
Quarterback - USC
  • Height - 6'5"
  • Weight - 225
  • 2004 Heisman Trophy Winner
  • 2005 Johnny Unitas award winner
  • many college trophies, here is his bio for a list.
Virtually guaranteed a top 5 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Leinart gave up the opportunity to go #1 overall in 2005 to play his senior season. There are a few teams near the top of the draft this year that would love to have him, and are already researching ways to land this USC standout. 2 quarterbacks have the opportunity to go in the top 5 of the 2006 nfl draft this year, and unless something changes, the other one, Vince Young, will be going back to college for his senior year.

One knock against Leinart is his immobility. What he lacks in mobility he will have to overcome with passing ability.

Who gets Leinart this year? What do you see him doing at the NFL level?

I think he'll fall to the Raiders. The 49ers and Texans don't need a QB with their 1st choice.

aaahhh...but what about the Pakers picking him up?

Yeah, we got Rodgers last year.....but either one could be used as trade bait.

Thoughts?

I dont think the Packers go that route. Depending on where the pack end up in the draft, I see them looking at the offensive line, or possibly trading down a little and maybe getting Laurence Maroney.

This is far fetched, but I would love to see a team like The Rams or another high powered passing offensive team trade up to get Leinart and let him start right away. I wonder if he would excel or struggle?

Have there been any NFL comparisons made to Leinart?

Interesting. I could see him fitting in well with the Rams, but I doubt they would start him right away.

Yeah, but when you look at the situation now - without a doubt, he's going to New Orleans becuz they'll get the 2 spot - this is good, becuz he'll soon become the face of the Saints and maybe even the whole city of New Orleans within their rebuilding efforts. I wish him all the best anyway.

He'll go to the Raiders and start right away.... don't you think? Leinart + Raiders = match made in heaven. Leinart is good enough to make the Turner offense work

I dont want him for the Raiders we already have Andrew Walter and if need be we draft a QB I think Vince Young would be the better pick just by comparing stats. Either way I dont care I just want everything to be patched up.

Thanks To God that we wont be seeing the Turner offense ever again. I doubt Matt is headed anywhere but New Orleans, although i could see a match made in heaven with him and Chicago. And what about Detroit. Plus, Al Davis really likes old guys, so if Brett Favre doesnt retire, he'll be a Raider. Andrew Walter is our quarterback of the future anyway.

I don't see Leinart being able to play for a team like the Rams. He is a pocket passer. The Rams use QBs drafted in later rounds and use a quick drop and pass type of QB. The Rams need a defensive player like DeMeco Ryans to be a field general for their defense.

Thumbs up

I would definitely draft Leinart over Young and here is an article to back that up

actually, the Nashville paper (The Tennessean) was running an opposing viewpoints article with Leinart AND Young, not just saying that the Titans were leaning towards Leinart...

He won't fall to the Raiders cause of the Titans or Saints will pick him up.

Still surprising he fell to #10 overall.

Do you think he is living up to the hype so far? Seems to me like the Cardinals fell into a goldmine here, just need to develop an offensive line to protect him.
