The rumors will soon begin flying as the time draws nearer for him to make his decision. There was already one rumor started on ESPN that he is leaning towards retirement.

What do you think he "will" do, and what do you think he "should" do?

I just heard on the radio that he announced his retirement. I can't find a link anywhere....looking now.

And, no - I do not think it's the right move.

If he plays, he is only going to play for another year. I don't think this new coach was probably too receptive to the idea of letting him come back as the full time starter either.
Think about it, your are taking over a team that struggled this year in a bad way and you have lots of things to fix. With Brett Favre in the lineup, the fans are still expecting magical things to happen. With Rodgers, the new coach gets a chance to do it with the new guys, and he gets a little bit of a free pass for going into it with a inexperienced Quarterback.

(AP) GREEN BAY Packers quarterback Brett Favre still hasn't made up his mind on whether he'll return next season.

But if he were forced to make a decision now, Farve tells E-S-P-N that he would retire.

In an interview with Chris Mortensen yesterday, Favre says he rather wait until training camp to make a decision on whether to return for a 16th year in the N-F-L. But, he knows he must tell the Packers within the next month what he plans to do.

Since the season ended, Favre says he's wondered whether he could commit himself entirely to the game.

The M-V-P quarterback says he never thought he'd give out mentally before he did physically.

Well, no one is pressuring him to make a decision. Everyone on the team has said that he can take his time making his choice. Honestly, I think that he should play next year and then call it quits.

The only problem with that is if he comes back, and the team struggles, then that is what he leaves with. This year was bad for Favre, but he had the fact of team injuries to attribute it to. If he comes back, and the Packers struggle again, then he is faced with having to go out with 2 back to back bad years to look up as how he finished his career.

Nobody knows what has with talks between Favre and the new coach, but I would be willing to bet that talk about Rodgers getting some meaningful game experience this season was brought up, and it is probably not sitting well with Favre. If he plays, he wants to play every down and that is just not what is best for the team at this point.

As Brett said himself - One season does not define his career.

I agree with the fact that it would not be the best for the team. But, I also the believe that Favre is man enough to realize that on his own.

This is why I think he will retire now. He already stated during the season that he was not there to "teach" Rodgers, and that he has no desire to be his mentor.

I just can't help but think there has been some internal bickering regarding that this year, although Favre won the arguements. I don't think he can win again this year, even some fans are wanting to see Rodgers start playing.

My thought is that if he is concidering retirement he ought to go...once the doubt creeps into your head yer done. He's had a great career, most likely a fisrt ballot HOF selection.
He is relatively young though, 35 and can still walk and I would love to see him keep playing somewhere else(sorry GBG). Miami maybe, San Deigo comes to mind, somewhere warm.

Heck no! He will NEVER play anywhere else. Once a Packer, always a Packer. Case closed.

I have to agree with GBG here. I don't think this is a push by Favre to leave. I honestly think part of his mistique is he has always been a Packer since he has started being a name.

Honestly, I can see the issue here.
This is a push and tug.
IF Bret comes back, he will want to be starter and run the show. He will not want to give in at some point to Rodgers and not keep starting.
GB however has to realize they HAVE to plan for the future without Bret. So at some point Rodgers will need to get some playing time to get ready.

I am betting Bret is gone. I think all GB is doing is can they get Bret to come back one year to have a farewell tour to take some heat off the team for a bad year coming as they rebuild. I just think Bret is too proud to bite another bad year since he is such a firm competitor..and will want to win..not rebuild.

From KFFL:

Favre Close to Decision
ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre would like to wait until training camp to decide his future with the team, but he knows he cannot wait that long to make a decision. "I wish I knew where I stood," Favre told Mortensen in an interview that aired as ESPN's Sunday Conversation. "If I had to pick right now and make a decision, I would say I'm not coming back." Favre said he's told Packers general manager Ted Thompson recently that if the team doesn't want to wait for him to commit to either playing the 2006 season or retiring, then he should be "cut loose." Favre suggested to Mortensen it was not his physical shape that was complicating his decision, instead acknowledging a host of factors, his daughter's upcoming high school graduation, off-field moves and whether at "crunch time, with two minutes left" in a game he would be able to say he wants the ball. Favre has also hinted that the Packers' offseason moves would play a role in his decision and it isn't clear what impact the team's hiring of Mike McCarthy to succeed Mike Sherman as head coach has had.

he needs 4 more TD's to join Marino as the only 2 with 400 TD passes. I think that is what I heard. Count on him playing next year

If Brett's worrying about his daughter's HS graduation, I'm thinking he should just call it quits.....

Retire in style, Mr Favre. Don't be a f-n putz.
