Rumor has it that Tennessee will release QB Steve McNair in a salary cap move. Baltimore is the likely destination, looking for a veteran presence to push under-achiever Kyle Boller. I think this means the Titans are going after Lienart in the draft as he is the most ready of the Qbs in the draft to start.

Wow, didnt see that move coming. So I guess it is yet another rebuilding year for the Titans.

Couple things here.

I dont really see this as a rebuilding year for the Titans, they probably feel comfortable in their Quarterback situation with Volek leading the way.

Another thing. If McNair does land in Baltimore does he start? And would him starting jump Mason back up in the fantasy charts?

Volek is a decent QB, but I dont think he has the talents that McNair has.

But if McNair does end up in Baltimore, then I would have to say that yues, I think his numbers would increase greatly.

no, he is not the quarterback that McNair is, but I think he can hold his own as a starter. If the Jets trade up to #2 like many are thinking, this has to solidify Vince Young to the Titans doesnt it?

I was so sure that the Titans were going to be keeping McNair this year. All signs pointed towards it just a few weeks ago. Why this sudden change?

Not necessarily. What makes you think that they would take Young over Leinart?

If the Jets take Leinart at #2 via trade as I mentioned, Leinart is no longer an option.

Yeah that was exactly my point. Nothing pointed to this at all, and I have found nothing to substantiate this.

The Titans needed to make that decision by March, and will now turn their attention to working on a restructured deal with McNair's agent. If they can't come to a satisfactory resolution to his current contract, which calls for a salary of $9 million this season, the team may be forced to release him or trade him.

By not exercising the option, the team is on the hook to pay McNair $1 million by September.
Orlando is full of rumors right now...but I heard this one this morning in response to McNair's reluctance to rework his cap number. The 13 year vet is thought to be tread bare by many in the organization.

Titans general manager Floyd Reese made it official this week that Tennessee won't be exercising an option to extend quarterback McNair's contract through 2009.
"We won't exercise," Reese said. "You can write that if you want, though I don't think it will be a surprise to anybody."

I have seen some rumors circulating, but the actual move hasnt been made. The Ravens appear to be ready to pounce on McNair though if it should happen

Little blurb here about it.

Doesn't really say that the Titans are going to release McNair, sounds more from this article that they are simply hoping. Still looking for something else and got my ear tuned to ESPN

ESPN News was just talking about it. Quoting a "source", they said the Ravens are waiting for the move which is expected to come next month.

Wow, that completely caught me off guard. I haven't heard any rumors of McNair being gone anywhere, including in the local media here in Nashville. I heard that the Titans were preparing to shoulder McNair's huge cap number for this year even if he wasn't willing to restructure.

Ya know that some of the stuff that gets floated is to force some one else's hand. This may be to test the Jets intentions on trading up to get Lienart. Ya just never know this time of year.

Really good point Dave. It could actually be as simple as that.
