As I posted in the Rumor thread, there are reports swirling that Reggie Bush is poised to stage a contract holdout with the Saints organization.

If Reggie Bush indeed stages a holdout and is not willing to play for #2 overall RB money for New Orleans I will lose a tremendous amount of respect for the guy.

Perhaps its a troubling sign of the times that an NFL draft pick would show such callous disregard for a devastated and recuperating fanbase in New Orleans. Considering the circumstances of Hurricane Katrina, the rebuilding efforts, and the incredible support the fans have showed Reggie thus far it would be unconscionable for him to refuse his still blockbuster deal.

You weren't drafted #1 overall Reggie - get over it. A lot of him not going #1 had to do with his incredible greed for a over-the-top deal. Now is the time for New Orleans to rebuild and return to normalcy, but Reggie Bush might add to their real world frustration by giving them something to grimace about in the Sports world as well. Unbelievable.

oh, he'll hold out, you can see that coming a mile away. It will be a messy one too IMO.

This I think above all else is the reason that Houston went with Williams. Bush is definitely a believer in his own hype. Since I dont have the #1 or 2 pick in any fantasy draft I am in, I hope he holds out long enough to hurt his season. I really hate guys that do this.

So far its just a rumor coming out of places like Pro Football Talk etc.
We'll see what develops.

If a holdout really is going down the Saints might cave and give Reggie the money, or Reggie might cave under PR pressure.

I am gonna go out on a limb here. I think N.O. goes above and beyond to get him signed. They have alot to make up for after all the tragedy last year, and the hints of leaving N.O. for good. I think Bush also got a taste of reality...and knows now he won't get all he wants...some, but not all. I think he is in by early camp at the latest.

I hope your right. I really want to see him on the field against the pros. He'll only make it worse for himself with his team-mates and the guys paid to chase him down and rip his liver out. Am I the only old school guy left that is tired of the Posses and posturing that these young urban athletes have brought to the league. I do seem to be noticing a backlash amongst front offices in leaking some of the negative image issues coming out during the pre-draft interviews. In the end, talent usually wins out and with that comes the hip hop crap. I really do think they will get it done with Bush and the rest is up to him.

During the draft they hinted that Bush pretty much negotiated himself out of the #1 spot. So, if Ronnie Brown is any indication of a trend for backs taken #2, Bush will hold out.

I think he should. You know I hate guys like this too , BUT this guy is special . I mean a good running back comes every year but a special and well talented running back like Reggie is rare. And alls i kept on hearing in the draft was that Texans should of taken Reggie because he is special. So i think special running backs get special money.

Exactly. You know what I'd do if I were drafted first overall? Take the league minimum for four years, just to take the punks behind me down a peg or two.

Yeah, the league minimum is nothing to laugh at...isn't it around $350,000 for a player. Hell, that is more than I make in several years.

First, I want to say that I am surprised that Bush is going to take this holdout stance after pulling out that full page ad in the New Orleans paper that he is "glad" to be there and ready to help the team move to the next level. He is going to be playing with some pretty good players in Deuce McAllister, Drew Brees, and Joe Horn. He would be foolish to holdout, as it will be remembered by numerous owners when and if he decides to leave the Big Easy.

Taking the league minimum wouldn't be necessary at all. Just play for $3-4mil a year or some such. That way if you get injured, you still make out fine with the millions and your bonus. Protect your ass.

Personally I'd just take whatever the offer was. Holding out is stupid at this stage.

Looks like both of our Rumor Mill Reporters caught this about the same time.

Saints | Bush will likely holdout
Michael Wallace, of The Clarion-Ledger, reports New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush will likely be a training camp holdout, according to Bush's marketing agent, Mike Ornstein. Ornstein said Bush and the Saints "probably" won't agree to terms until after training camp starts. Ornstein added, "Do we feel like he'll be there at the start? I'm not sure where we are right now. I'd say probably not, at this stage."

Do we need to dig up the old threads here with Reggie Bush speaking about the imporance of getting into camp on time and avoiding a holdout? Remember how important it was for him to get off to a good start for a city that had been through so much?

This is not totaly unexpected but it is not really a good thing. Unless you own Duece in a dynasty league. He should get extra reps in camp to try and re-establish himself as being recovered from his injury.

That was before the money talk started. He's just like every other selfish player in the league..can't wait to get his before he's done a thing for his team. It's pathetic. I'd almost laugh if he finally got this deal done and then proceeded to go down with an injury at any point this season. All I can say is that I smell Cedric Benson in this. I could be wrong, but so is he (Bush).

*spits* Know what I'd do if I were the first pick in the NFL draft? Insist on a four-year contract with the league-allowed minimum and only slight performance bonuses just so punks like this couldn't sign bigger contracts without looking selfish.

If he's lucky he'll be half as good as Ronnie Brown.

You have to give the Texans credit for avoiding this situation. They got their first rounder signed to a very cap friendly contract
