Like Miller says WOW. I know he has talked about it before, but its shocking when it just comes out of left field. I will have to alter me rankings right now. Matt Jones will now move up my rankings, as I think he will be the biggest recipient of this development, IMO.

There was some whispers at the end of last year that he may go. A guy that covers the Jags here plays poker with us and said not to be surprised.

With Smith retiring today, what does it mean WR wise in J-ville?

It means we all start over in our rankings.

Del Rio was pushing for one of his guys to step up and take control of the #2 role. Now he needs that plus one of the youngsters to take posession of the #1 role. There are some talented young guys on that roster, and we are currently trying to figure out where they will find themselves. Without a decision on who would be the clear #2 being made prior to this move, it makes it impossible to have a solid idea on where these guys rank now.

One person who is greatly affected by this, IMO, is Matt Jones.

Another factor, is how will this effect Leftwich.....

It may take awhile indeed to sort out the Jag wr's and rerank them. There are rumors already floating that the Jags may make a play to get Donte Stallworth.

I hope that we hear something soon if it is going to happen.

Surely Mr. DelRio knows this is very important to us as fantasy football team owners.

Actually they should do something pretty fast if they are going to do anything. If you are going to add a Wr he needs to get in and get his reps.

I think this will hurt Leftwich more than anyone. He always had Mr. Smith to rely on when the game came to a fever pitch. Wilford, Williams and Jones all had flashes...but no one can lose a talent and consistant threat like Smith and not lose some. I do agree now rookie TE Lewis gets a big bump now. I also think like you guys they make some kind of move to add a wr. Lelie would be interesting here....

I not so sure that this really hurts the Jaguars. At some point the young wide receivers were going to step up, and this may have been the year anyway.

Smith was still a good talent, but He was not the threat that he was 3-4 years ago. It will take a little adjustment, but I think the Jaguars will be fine with Wilford, Williams, Jones, and now Lewis as the tight end.

I agree with Mike, I think the WR's they have will get the job done, it's time to take the training wheels off. I believe that Matt Jones can be, and will be a solid #1 WR in this league, he has the talent, height and speed, and pretty good hand to get the job done. He has a year under his belt. The learning curve for him wasn't that hard.I also think Williams and Wilford can be solid #2, and #3 WR's, Lelie would be nice, but I don't think he will ever live upto the hype.

Matt Jones just simply understands the game, and is one hell of an athlete. I still would have loved to seen a team take on the project of keeping him as a Quarterback. I think he would have developed into a very good one, given the time.
