It could happen

Quote:
If he’s healthy, don’t be surprised if LenDale White wins the Tennessee Titans’ starting running back spot. The Titans think White can play tougher than either Chris Brown or Travis Henry and still stay healthy. As it stands, White is expected to be a big part of red-zone packages, but his role could increase exponentially if he fares well in training camp. The big concern is getting him onto the field in time to learn the pass-protection packages. Since rookie minicamp, White has been weighing around the high 230s consistently – a weight the team has deemed acceptable as long as he dedicates himself to the weight room.

Ironic part of the article is it states White could be the starter because Brown and Henry can't stay healthy.

Who are the healthy ones right now?

I think White is going to be the starter here sooner then later. If he can get on the field and get it going early on, Chrissy and henry may just be history.

And that's the million dollar question, will he actually dedicate himself. You don't get man boobies because you tore your hamstring and couldn't work out as much for a couple of months.

Yeah I cant agree with Portis. I hope someone ahead of me grabs up White in my keeper league. Better chance that there is going to be a more worth while RB there when I get to draft. I can see people wishing on a star with this guy but in my opinion, If you cant get it up and show your dedication etc for the combine and then the draft (easily the most important time in a college football/ pro footballers career), then you're never going to be able to maintain that dedication and discipline....hmmm hope that came out in english.

When the USC played Texas in the National Championship Game, late in the 4th quarter with USC was driving - they had White in the game, NOT Bush --- that speaks volumes IMO -- he had some minor injuries that cause he to eat more then he wanted to prior to the combine... I dont' think its a long term flaw in his thinking... he was a superstar at USC, but it just happend that his teammate Reggie Bush got all the glory and was more of a highlight reel -- White is a perfect back for the NFL

What speaks volume is how many NFL teams passed on White.

From a keeper perspective, players like Addai, Maroney and Williams are all in better situations IMO. Even Carolina has a track record of churning out great fantasy RBs (see Nick Goings).

Agree. Addai and Maroney (who ran all over my Rams) are in ideal situations with two of the best passing games in the NFL with systems that recently also turned out prolific ff rbs.

edited to add: and yes before someone calls me on it LenDale ran all over my Rams last season, too. 123 yds, 3tds...the pain lingers.

Exactly - there were teams like Green Bay and the Jets that were no doubt in need of a RB. And they passed on the guy twice...

Sorry guys, the best draft values are not going to be found in the top 10 of the rookie draft. Dig those gems out of the 5th and 6th round, then we are talking value. Especially if salary is figured on draft position.

Again, you don't go from premier physical condition to man boobies in a matter of months because of a slight injury. Your sculpted physique may look a little flabby, but it's still apparant that you've been hitting the weight room for the last few years. That doesn't go away in three months - it probably takes closer to three years. Man boobies shows a lack of dedication that dates back for years.

I'm very glad that he was great in college. Fatass Dayne holds the records for most rushing yards in college, that ought to tell you that fatasses can dominate underdeveloped boys.

He's now playing against men, mean and nasty men, and he's going to have to dedicate himself a WHOLE LOT more to be successful at this level.

If he doesn't, he's going to fail. Period, end of story.

I never seen these "man boobies" that keeps being referred to. All I know about the guy is he has very good vision to find the open runnin lanes, and can break tackles running through the line. Something that Reggie Bush cannot do, as proven in the National Championship game.

In addition, how much of a fantasy force is this guy really going to be? Even look at Bettis, the most special fat man RB of all time - the numbers don't really jump out at you. He ranked in the top 10 RB's 3 times, all within the first 5 years of his career. Beyond that he ranked in the late teens and 20's his entire career.

And this is assuming LenDale can be as good as the best fat man to ever play RB... I'm really not sure he has the heart or dedication for that...

When he had to take his shirt off at the combine...it was greeted with groans.

After that, he tried to keep them covered as best as he could and wore big baggy sweats at the USC Pro Day. Maybe that's why he did 1 more strength rep than the punter, that's gotta be it. Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the guy didn't even know where the weight room was at USC until that pro day.

Maybe he has vision and all of that, but unless he finds the weight room in Tennessee, he is going to get torn to shreds at this level of competition. His body won't last more than 3 years.

Bettis didn't get his man boobies until his late twenties. So White is ahead of the curve there. There is no discounting White's production in college. Was some of that due to the fact that the most electrifying college back in years was in the backfield with him?

Chris Brown is also in a contract year = motivation

From Fisher interview on 5/15:
Quote:
Chris is in terrific shape, he’s explosive and his legs are good. We don’t have any issues. With the guys that are on the field right now we don’t have any issues. We’re anxious to get some of the other guys back. They will be back in June, but Chris looks really well.

62nd in the country = average rushing defense rank of USC's PAC-10 opponents

(Oregon State was the highest at 17th)

Right now only Brown is healthy (and Damien Nash, but he went to Missouri and that doesn't count). Maybe one of you guys should tear your hammy and see how well you work out for the combine. From White's own words he was in poor shape for the National Championship game and did pretty well.

I think that Brown will start the opener but White will get some short yardage and goal line carries. Sure, Brown is an injury machine but he still has plenty of talent. I like White more in a keeper/dynasty format.

Wasn't it just two years ago that people thought that Travis Henry was tons better than Willis McGahee? Now he's a bad training camp from getting cut.

Nice one CA7. Many discount how easy it was for an offense like USC to produce the numbers they did against pathetic defenses.
