Which team has the best defense in this division and why?

I would like both a "homer" view and a more open minded view. Lets see how each of you rate your team..and the division as a whole.

The Steelers. Is this even a question? With Dick LeBeau back at the helm of that D, they are tough. You can't get around it. Blitzberg is back. My only hope (and the league's) is that Joey Porter gets shot in the ass again or he gets an infection from the scoping of his good knee.

The homer pick is easy, the Browns. Don't be surprised when the Browns end up in the top third of overall D's in the league. Romeo proved last year that this D is the saving grace of this team until the offense gets its stuff together. That shutout of Miami opened a lot of eyes. And if you ix-nay the 2 Pittsburgh games, this team only gave up an average of 16 points/game. Not too shabby.

Have to agree with Yetti, Pittsburgh's D is the class of the division. They are relentless, and destructive to offensive gameplans. It's an attitude in Pittsburgh, and they live up to it. However, don't think this D is without holes. Thir secondary is not the strongest out there, but they do a good job to disguise their weaknesses and concentrate on their strengths. And that is the reason this D has to be considered the best.

However, the most imporved D in this division is going to be the Bengals. A young and oportunistic defense last year has another year under their belt and a couple huge additions. While were talking about HUGE, how about we start with Sam Adams giving them the beast in the middle they have been lacking for years. This should vastly improve their run D and make their defensive line a force. The safety's, which were a huge weakness last year, will be basically all new with Madieu Williams back from injury and Dexter Jackson added to bring vetern leadership and a mental toughness that this defense has lacked. With the youth continuing to improve and Marvin continuining to bring in the missing parts, this D will be knocking on the door of the top 10 in the NFL this year.

It would have been easier to pick the worst D. The other three.

Actually Pittsburgh's defense has been losing ground to Baltimore, who, in the last three years have finished 3rd, 7th and 5th in overall defense. The Ravens have had the better first downs per game all three years. A measure of a rising D. It shows you how bad their offense was. With a decent draft to protect the aging felon Ray Lewis they will be a good statistcal team again this year.
Pittsburgh didn't lose a whole lot. Brad Keisel will get a much heavier rotation with Kimo gone and we'll have to see how that goes. Keisel is a pro he's solid and can play. Can he handle the reps? Ryan Clark is no drop off from Chris Hope. Chemistry with Polamalu will be key. Troy roams and gambles a lot. Clark has the skills to keep up. The Steelers will come at you. Not a lot of big names but the results are there. If Baltimore has any kind of offense their d could be in the top 5 again this year. I give the edge to the Steelers at the moment.

While the Ravens Defense couldn't get any better than their 2000 version I do believe that they will be the best this year. With Ngata and Kelly playing the roles of Adams and Goose I think we will see a more dominant Ray Lewis than we have in the past. With the 2 of the best cover corners and an All Pro Safety it is going to be hard to throw on them if they can get pressure with Suggs,Cody, Pryce and A. Thomas. Once they fill Demps' safety postion, which shouldn't be that hard, they will be hard to score on...

Did I read somewhere...I thought, that they will go fully back to a 4-3 now....since they now have the DL strength to do it?
