With Luke McCown having knee surgery, the Bucs may bring in Jay Fiedler to backup Simms.

I have to say I don't understand this. They went and traded to get Rattay. He is versed in the west coast offense, and he has been with the team so should know this offense. Why go out and spend more on another retread QB? Just doesn't make sense to me.

I would feel more comfortable with Fiedler stepping in and helping out in a pinch than I would Rattay. Regardless what people think about Fiedler, he is a good quarterback to have as a backup. He isnt going to dazzle you, but he isnt going to blow it for you either.

I would argue the same for Rattay. If you look, he has put up some very solid numbers on an atrocious team. I am not saying he is the end all, but if you need a spot start, I don't see how Fiedler is better than Rattay...especially with Rattay already being in the system for most of a year.

Rattay will put up decent numbers given he has had some practice with the startig team. You might feel comfortable with him coming in during the third quarter, unprepared, during a crucial game, but I would rather have Fiedler.
