Jeff Walcoff, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns LB Willie McGinest has served as a knowledgeable adviser to LB Kamerion Wimbley. Wimbley is making the transition from defensive end to linebacker. Wimbley said, "He points out a lot of stuff and I really appreciate that. He's there for encouragement, but he's also going to tell me what I did wrong and how I should improve it. If he wanted to he could probably coach a team. He knows the defense that well. He knows his job as well as everybody around him."

Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson would like to be more involved in the team's passing game than he was during the 2005 season. Tomlinson said, "We run the ball quite a bit. That's one thing we do. Touching the football is not a concern, but I would like to touch it a little more in the passing game. That would be great to do. We'll see how that goes." Tomlinson had a career-low 51 receptions for 370 yards during the 2005 season.

Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Atlanta Falcons CB Jimmy F. Williams is listed behind CB Jason Webster at right cornerback. In addition to playing in the team's nickel package, Williams is on the punt, punt return, kickoff and kickoff return teams. Williams said, "Everything is right on schedule as far as getting the concepts of the defense and understanding what they're asking of me." Williams added, "…I feel like a freshman in college in a way."

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban praised DE Matt Roth's improvement, and one factor is his bulked-up body. Roth said he ended last season at 270 pounds, was 280 for the final June minicamp and wants to be at 285. Roth has shorter arms than the prototypical defensive end, but the Dolphins believe he can compensate with his above-average motor and a more polished technique.

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins WR Chris Chambers says the area that he wants to polish is his route-running, but there's something else that's a bigger concern. ESPN.com stats guru KC Joyner unearthed the fact that Chambers fumbled five times in 2005, losing two. His 17 dropped passes were second-most in the NFL behind only Chicago Bears WR Muhsin Muhammad. And Joyner said Chambers lost 318 potential yards by dropping those passes, easily the worst in the league.

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins would love for rookie WR Derek Hagan to claim the No. 3 wide receiver job, but the position remains open heading into camp. One player said Hagan has impressed with his speed and hasn't dropped balls like he did during Senior Bowl week, but needs to refine his route-running. WRs Kelly Campbell and Wesley Welker remain in the competition. The team has some size concerns with Campbell (5-10) and Welker (5-9).

Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings are giving no indication that they plan to adjust QB Brad Johnson's $1.2 million salary. He is currently the league's lowest-paid veteran starter and has at least 36 quarterbacks scheduled to earn more during than 2006 season than him. In May, Johnson said that "over time those things just take care of themselves." However, he declined to comment on the situation this week through his agent, Phil Williams. Johnson is currently locked into backup salaries through the 2008 season when it is believed he will be their starter for at least the next two seasons.
