Trade Advice (dynasty)

Have an offer for Ronnie Brown. A coach is willing to part with Eddie Royal and Cedric Benson in exchange for him. This is what my team looks like now:

Tony Romo QB DAL
Brian Westbrook RB PHI
TJ Houshmandzadeh WR SEA
Santonio Holmes WR PIT
Tony Gonzalez TE KC
Ronnie Brown RB MIA
Thomas Jones RB NYJ
Jerod Mayo LB NE
DJ Williams LB DEN
Antonio Pierce LB NYG
Nick Folk K DAL

Matt Schaub QB HOU
JaMarcus Russell QB OAK
Chad Pennington QB MIA
Stephen McGee QB DAL
Correll Buckhalter RB DEN
Shonn Greene RB NYJ
Willie Parker RB PIT
Zach Miller TE OAK
Hakeem Nicks WR NYG
Terrell Owens WR BUF
Jarett Dillard WR JAX
Nate Washington WR TEN
Domenik Hixon WR NYG
Laurent Robinson WR STl
Justin Durant LB JAX
David Harris LB NYJ
Channing Crowder LB MIA
Garrett Hartley K NO
Shawn Nelson, TE BUF

It's a 10 team dynasty and not PPR. Standard scoring. We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR's, 1 TE, 1 K and 3 IDP's with 2 flex spots to be used for either RB or WR.

I guess I'm not that high on Ronnie Brown but not sure if Cedric is an upgrade or just a lateral trade. The coach that made the offer holds Ricky Williams. Any other info that would help you help me just ask...otherwise I'd be interested in your opinion on this one.

I would keep Ronnie Brown. I think he is set to have a big year this year.

Not a 10 team player but I would think this is a trade worth doing.

QB: Not a Romo fan but he should do well again while McGee is groomed, decent depth for a regular league but how is it for a 10 teamer?

RB: Westie as 1 starter and your pick of Jone/Greene, Benson, Parker each week as the other does not leave you hurting. I do agree Benson is not an upgrade from Brown but the addition of Royal makes up for it. Besides Jones/Benson did pretty well the last time they shared the backfield.

WR: TO and TJ are weekly starters but Royal gives you some choices for a #3 or bye week fill other than Holmes. Nicks will hopefully produce immediately but adding Royal allows you to not have to force that issue. Eddie may take a bit of a hit due to all the changes in Denver but he should still be able to fill a fantasy role on a part-time basis.

TE: Gonzo should have a bit of a resurrection with Miller as the bye fill. Nelson is an interesting project that I am also hoping will pay off.

I would NOT take this deal. I like the condition of your WRs already and Royal isn't exactly the big home run hitter.

Your RBs look nice, but there is some age issues there. Your #1 is Westy, who is approaching "over the hill" status. Thomas Jones is also in the end of his career. It's nice that you have him backed up with Shonne Green, but Leon has been very impressive for the NYJ, and I'm not sure if Green is the man there when Jones is gone.

Hold on to Brown. He's your workhorse for the next few years.

Well, I'm thinking that Brown's value is higher than how he'll actually perform. So to take Benson who has looked really good and is a year younger than Brown and is the unquestioned starter there (unless the rookie explodes or he gets hurt)*read: undervalued player who could provide big numbers or just be average* and get Royal in return (who could actually end up being a bigger part of Denver's offense as Marshall keeps getting arrested). Thanks for the input guys..yeah seems as if you're a Brown lover or hater...either way I gotta do what is best for my team. I'm certainly not getting any younger by doing nothing right?

My problem is that I have too many "average" RB's on my squad behind Westy. Granted Jones had a great season last year but I dont' see that happening again. The question for me is, am I upgrading my team by doing this deal?

First do the deal...you get a solid if not soon to be stud Wr in Denver. As for the Rb situation...make some more deals...maybe the owner who has Mendenhall will deal him to you for some of your vets...or has a younger Rb you can get or picks for FWP.

Still, this is a good deal for you IMO>

Other than the 2 mainstays at the position (TJ and TO) none of the WRs are over 25. This is nice long term potential but since none of them have really established themselves leaves this an area of concern for this season.

Holmes has the best chance of establishing himself this season and Nicks the following year. Dillard, Washington, Hixon and Robinson are all gambles (some better than others) but not players I want to go into this season counting on.

So if age is the concern for WR, than why trade for Royal? He's under 25.

And before you slash back with talk of Royal being established, let's keep in mind his situation last year. Marshall missing time, Cutler playing QB, team constasntly having to put up 30 to win.

I want to see what Orton does for Royal's fantasy value before I go trading off a guy like Brown.

But sometimes trades can't wait to see how things shape up, they are a gamble, granted most times you want it to be a calculated gamble...but that's the beauty...if you pull it off and it works out..you're a genius...if it doesn't pay off...everyone in the league says "I knew it was a bad move".

But I do understand what you're saying ER...there are unknowns especially in Denver. It's almost like a totally new team. But you can't deny talent. Although no matter how talented a WR is, a terrible QB or OL will kill their value *cough*Raiders/Randy Moss*cough*

Here is where personal opinion gets in the way of championships. I just don't like Brown that much, in fact I'm not sure why I even traded for him last year...kicking myself now. I'd just like to know I got enough value for him.

I was not dissing on the youth - hence the nice potential comment.

I mentioned the age to demonstrate that the team does not have much balance between proven veterans and youth.

My argument is not that Royal is an established WR but rather is another young player who is well ahead of the other young players on the roster and in the best position to produce this year.

The I would do this trade is that Royal becomes a legit #3 option for the team rather than hoping one of the others step up with a break out season.
