Is UFC good or bad for the MMA world?

Just a thought since we have so many rival promotions springing up and complaints are being aired about lack of quality.

Competition makes you better. WWE was in its prime toward the end of and right after the defeat of WCW, because there was something to fight against.

Dana White has gone the way of Vince McMahon, and is trying to buy up or shut down the competition.

Is UFC good or bad for MMA?

Im not so sure. I like the quality, but where does it properly develop if its not UFC Ready?

UFC is excellent for MMA. Is the NFL bad for professional football b/c there is no equal? Is MLB bad for baseball b/c there is no equal? Is the NBA bad for basketball b/c there is no equal? A professional sport needs a pinnacle. It's needs something to be the crown jewel of that sport. UFC is that, and needs to maintain that for MMA to take the next step IMO.

UFC owns WEC.

WEC is UFC's "minor league", imo.

The UFC is the pinnacle of MMA. People want to see the biggest, best, and most talented fighters beat the hell out of each other once a month. The promotion of MMA is no where near its peak, but with that MMA show airing on CBS the MMA world is one step closer to becoming a house hold name and sport.

You will know when it has reached it's peak when we start the SO UFC Fantasy Challenge.

The UFC is good for MMA. Can't really say it any better than what has been posted above.

The UFC has the most talented pool of fighters in the world and they do a good job of providing exciting fights for the most part. My only gripe is that I wanna see the best vs the best, period. With guys like Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Lindland, Paulo Filho, Takanori Gomi, Cug Le, Josh Barnett, etc. not being a part of the UFC, we're all missing out. I don't know who's fault it is but it sucks.

For me, it all comes down to overall quality. They have the most talented roster from top to bottom then any other organization. I can watch a UFC card and be entertained from beginning to end, I can't do that with the other organizations. I have to sit through an hour and half of crappy fights to see the 1 fight I actually want to watch.

Affliction debut card on 7/19 is a good one. This, along with DREAM's card, is why the UFC is not the NFL of MMA. Affliction Banned

The UFC has the best fighters overall. But it does not have ALL of the best fighters. The NFL is the king of football because it has the best QB's, the best RB's, the best WR's, etc. The UFC can't lay claim to the top fighter/fighters in every division. That is why I contend that the UFC is not the NFL of MMA.

The UFC is obviously threatened by the debut of Affliction. Throwing together a free card on short notice to compete with the PPV Affliction card. The Affliction card absolutley clowns the UFC card on 7/19.....can't say I'm going to fork over the $$$$ to watch it but....maybe, if I've had enough to drink.

I just dumped even more money on Anderson Silva when I learned Irwin is taking this fight on less than 5 weeks prep time.

Go Spider

I think this was a brilliant move by the UFC. Obviously Affliction has a ton of support from the start and some VERY good fighters!! Fedor headlining gets your attention, but this card is deep. So instead of sit back and let this promotion get off to a rolling start they do what? Oh that's right, come out with a FREE show instead of the $40 for Banned and headline Spider moving to a new weight class. I thought about buying Afflictions card, but in the end I can sit back and watch the UFC card for free and read up on what happened on the other. I have to think I'm not the only one that will make that choice making it a good move by the UFC. I don't think they will stop Affliction from getting off the ground though, too many good fighters.

I also agree that the Affliction card is much better then this UFC card, but if you compare it to the next UFC card, I don't think it compares, the UFC card is better and deeper then even this stacked affliction card.

This affliction card is more of a group of fights the fans would want to see, but not necessarily a card UFC would set.

TIme will tell but Im jacked about all the fights tomorrow.
