How do you guys feel about this whole Imus thing

I case you missed it Imus called the Rutgers women basketball team nappy headed hos. So of course Sharpton and Jackson are calling for him to be fired. Imus has done the apology twice now.

I personally feel that the comment was completely pre-meditated, in that I'm sure the night before he was sitting there watching the game thinking about how he would rip Rutgers on-air and try to be cute and funny.

Couple that with the fact that he has a history of crossing the line between controversial and offensive and if I'm MSNBC, I'm cutting him loose. Nobody's irreplaceable in the radio talk industry.

I go back and fourth. Ok so he said nappy headed hos and thats wrong in this day and age. You should know better then to say something like that. I'm not saying we don't have the right to say that but in this day of PC come on he should have know.

But if I'm ever called name lets say ho I know I'm not a ho so I really don't care. But its easy for me to say that since I haven't been called one recently.

And nappy headed has so many raical over tones. But its Imus he is a shock jock and thats what he did.

I don't know.

This whole situation leaves me confused. I have tried 4-5 times to say something about it, but can't get the words out to make my thoughts known for fear of them getting twisted around somehow.

I will say though, people like Al Sharpton need to be more consistent about who they go after for things like this. If he is going to demand Imus be fired, he needs to step up to the plate and go after comedians and singers as well and demand that they get pulled from networks and music labels.

I do find it funny though how little message board play this is getting, compared to if the same comment had been made by a conservative show host such as Rush Limbaugh. Had this been said by Rush, or any outspoken conservative, there would be a lynch mob. (can I say lynch mob? )

I don't know how I can explain this without coming across sounding bad.

I know I say I have nappy hair because my hair is curly very curly. Most black people have very very curly hair and its kinky and coarse hence the term nappy headed.

My ex-wife is 50/50 black and Puerto Rican. We were dating/married during the mid-90's in North Carolina. The only thing that saved us from way more racial slurs was that we were living in a predominantly military community, but we still heard our fair share when we were out together.

With that said, I have a different insight on why it is "ok" for minority comedians and others in entertainment to make Imus comments about themselves. I hate so bad when people lean on that excuse whenever something like this comes up.. "Well, THEY (rappers/comedians) call each other that, so why is it so bad when WE do?"

It's bad because "THEY" do that in an attempt to belittle the deplorable terminology that other racists use against "THEM".. whereas people like Imus and your run-of-the-mill deep south white supremacist idiots say these things because they have true hate and malice in their hearts towards their targets.

MSNBC/CBS/WFAN, Please set this guy out to pasture, there are a thousand up and coming local controversial young dorks across the country on AM stations that can get your ratings dollar for you, and at 25% the salary.

In fact, let's really make some cash off this...

This fall's new HOT reality show on NBC:

"America's Next Top Loudmouth Slurring Talk Show Host That Always Takes The Opposite Side of Arguments to Get Fan Reaction, Attention, and Ratings"

Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, and Dr. Laura would of course be the celebrity judges panel.

I love you dearly, Nikki... but I would just avoid explaining yourself in this thread before you start losing cool points.

Is being nappy headed a negative thing? I don't think so.

However, calling a championship caliber team a bunch of nappy headed hos seems negative to me.

Imus deserved to be reprimanded for his stupid on-air remark. What he DIDN'T deserve was to be interviewed by the biggest racist hypocrite in the world, the Reverend Al. That POS gets away with jew-baiting and white-bashing all the time. Sharpton acts like no reverend I ever knew of.....

Besides the fact you're trying to justify blatantly racist comments by a national celebrity by analyzing your hair texture in a context you obviously don't understand?

Please don't make this confrontational because it won't turn out pretty for anyone involved.

Using that thought process, I am assuming it is also OK for the comedians when they use the slurs against another race as well.

Which in turn means it should be ok, given this process, for Jeff Foxworthy to go off a new line of jokes that are very similar. Although, I know as soon as that happened, Al Sharpton would be on the first red-eye flight to Nashville to demand Foxworthy be banned from every comedy club in the United States.

I don't buy into this double standard of it being ok for one person, but not the other at all. If it is to come to a stop, it needs to come to a stop for everybody.

And I may be completely out of the loop here, but I honestly never associated Nappy Head to being a racial slur until this came up. I can make the connection as to why now, thanks to it being talked about so much today, but before today, it never crossed my mind.

Nikki, Thanks. I thought nappy was "Sharply Dressed" term from the 50's. I don't know what a lot of this PC upsetting shit means. I'm from the old school where you can say almost anything as long as there is no malicious intent. If it is persieved as being malicious against anyone look-out.

Last night I was in the smoking room at a local pub. One woman who I had never seen before was sitting behind me and another 1/2 dozen guys in the room. Someone switched the TV to some Womens Hockey Championship game and I commented "What are they doing this for ? Don't they know how to cook." The ensuing reaction and banter was hilarious

I don't understand? Please tell me how I don't understand? You seem to think you know me well enough to know I wouldn't understand so tell me how I don't understand.

Also don't warn me like I'm some child.

If your parents are as you claim, you must realize that caucasians haven't cornered the racism market, right? Actually being a racist minority is commonly referred to as "reverse racist" and I assure you, they are alive and well around the world.
