I have become very lost as far as Rap is concerned over the past 3-4 years. Not so much that I have started disliking it, but I just have started listening to less and less music these days.

Currently though, I am listening to music again, but really not up to date on anything.

The only hip-hop artist that I am realy familiar with is Kid Rock (yeah, he has some hip-hop )

Maybe this thread will fill me in on what to look for now.

Alright, I am a hip hop/rap fan though I think the genre today has slipped significantly in quality. Which is not to say that it is all crap, unfortunatley though a lot of it is.

Some of my modern favorites are Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, and the Game.

Without question the greatest rapper to have ever lived, one of the greatest musicians period, is Tupac Shakur. Indeed he was a brilliant man, incredibly intellegent with an inspiring way with words. His message helped me tremendously through my childhood, so much so that my most prominent tattoo is one in his honor.

Nikki, you are right in stating that A Tribe Called Quest is one of the best rap groups ever, however in my personal opinion, the greatest of all time has to go to the Wutang Clan followed closely by NWA.

Recently it seems that a lot of people I grew up with in this area have started rapping though the content is rather lacking. The most "successful" person around here in the rap game is a guy by the name of Feezy (but his real name is Ryan so I will call him that) who was in Miami for a couple of years and did some recordings with Pitbull; one of their songs is featured in the Madden '07 soundtrack. Everyone else is a bit of a joke, really. One kid who raps about guns and such, I've known since he was 6 and happen to know it to be true that he has never once touched a gun.

There is also another local group that I think are quite good, 226 (Dan and Brian), who have been making music since I started high school. We had all joked around with them that they should go on the "White Rapper Show" that was featured on VH1, we all agreed that Craiz (Dan) could have won but Dirty B (Brian) would have tore them up.

There music is featured on their myspace page, let me know what you think.

Danny Tupac was by far I think one of the best rappers ever. I would say Tupac, Snoop and Dre are all great and bring back great memories of high school.

Also Wu Tang is great I think Enter the Wu Tang is a must have for any hip hop fan its a great cd.

NWA awesome. I don't know why I love Tribe so much but I just think they are awesome.

Now the new stuff I'm not a huge Kanye fan The Game is annoying and Lil Wayne is growing on me I didn't care for him at first but he is getting better. I think maybe the reason why I couldn't stand Lil Wayne was because of Birdman I found him to be very annoying so I think I just associate the 2 I don't know.

I am also big on DMX. He is such a deep person and operates on so many levels. He is incredibly intellegent and shows magnitudes of stupidity at the same time - which to me, just proves that he is a real person. He is charasimatic, and like Tupac, has incredible power hidden in every sentence.

I can't take rapper seriously if he always seems to be showing off his rip body. Granted he is cut but it seems like him, Ja Rule and Lil Wayne always has there shirts off in there videos.

Dont forget Biggie. His double CD was amazing... Also another one of my favorites is Eminem, more for entertainment and anthem music then deep lyrics. I also like some lighter R/B people like the fugees and Lauren Hill/wycleff solo albums.

Tribe Called Quest is great music, one of the classics.

Some others that come to mind right away are Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Hieroglyphics, Chali 2na, Del, Jedi Mind Tricks, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Wu Tang, Slick Rick, Immortal Technique, Masta Ace.... I could go on but I'll stop

Kid Rock came in this week, New CD is awesome. Also got an old one from 1990 (Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast), and the live CD (Live Trucker) which I haven't listened to yet.
