| Master of Inexpertise Premium Member | I'm just surprised that Crash was still available. Just like I was surprised about Dumb and Dumber. Both picks I discounted those two, figuring they were taken, and at the last minute looking at the list and being blown away. I am 100% happy with my list so far:
Also, I'm like 97% positive that my #2 and #5 all-time favorite movies will not be drafted by anyone else. As far as the rest of my list goes, I'm really only worried about Da Bomb drafting those movies. |

| Outlaw | Crash is actually in my top 3 and I thought I could get it in the mid rounds. Guess I paid the price for gambling with it. Such an incredible film. You really shocked me with Garden State. Wasn't even on my radar yet. |

| Outlaw | I picked Gladiator, and I gotta say, I thought that it was way better than Braveheart. I saw Braveheart only about 2 years ago, with much hype behind it. For me, it did not live up to all that I heard. Gladiator on the other hand, I saw in theaters and I remember then entire audience cheering at the end of the movie because we thought it was so very good. |

Im not saying that Gladiator is a crappy movie by any means, I just felt it was a bit of a Braveheart wannabe. You may actually like Gladiator more because you saw it in theaters. Plus it's hard for any movie to live up to 15 years of hype before the viewer sees it.

Hawks's Rap Sheet #1: Garden State, 2004, Zach Braff If you were looking for a good indie flick a couple of years ago, so you could claim that you saw it before it was popular, Garden State was probably that movie. But now, when you are looking for a movie that you know you'll love to watch over and over for the rest of your life, does it measure up? Is its long-term potential as good as its initial hype? Let's take a look. The Stats: 102 min, 4th year available on DVD. Grammy Award - Best Compilation Soundtrack Album - National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Best First Feature - Independent Spirit Awards, Best New Director - Chicago Film Critic's Association & the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, Breakout of the Year - Florida Film Critics Circle & the Phoenix Film Critics Society. The Early Years: Garden State was written in the mid-1990's, during Zach Braff's college years at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, but it wasn't until nearly a decade later that Braff's efforts came to fruition. With a meager budget of $2.5 million, Braff, coming from popularity on the television show "Scrubs", made his writing and directing debut in early 2003. Casting: Zach Braff, having written the role of "Sam" specifically for Natalie Portman, was overjoyed when she agreed to be his co-star. Braff also managed to enlist several other stars to his cast, including Peter Sarsgaard, best known at the time for his work in "K-19: The Widowmaker", and Sir Ian Holmes, a well-renowned actor. Apart from some cameo appearances by Geoffrey Arend (Super Troopers) and Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan), the cast lacks much more depth. Filming: The filming of Garden State took place in April and May of 2003, over a span of 25 days. Although not entirely, the majority of the filming was done in New Jersey, in Braff's own hometown of South Orange. Filming also took place in New York City and Los Angeles. Release: Garden State was first screened on January 16, 2004, at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was bought by Fox Serachlight Pictures and Miramax for $5 million. The film was first released in theaters on July 28, 2004, but only on a limited basis. Although it was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, the film did not receive the publicity of most mainstream Hollywood productions. Word of the film was spread mostly through word-of-mouth from a loyal fan base of Braff's, who read and responded to his online blog on the movie's website. Despite its limited release, Garden State managed to make $35.8 million dollars at the worldwide box office, and was released on DVD December 28, 2004. 2008 and beyond: With its down-to-earth characters and engaging storyline, Garden State has the repeat-watchability that everyone looks for in a movie. I'd be surprised if this movie isn't gone by the second round (third, at the latest) in any Fantasy Movie Draft, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it sneak into the first round, either. Sure, it probably won't go before the real gems of the first round, like The Shawshank Redemption or The Godfather, but it may be up there. If you see the potential that I do, I'd get your hands on Garden State as soon as possible. Hawks Eye Last edited by Sgt John; 06-26-2008 at 09:03 PM. Reason: Added caveat about lawsuit
