Thumbs down U.S. Marines are Unwelcomed Intruders In Berkeley

The hatred I have for Berkeley has now hit a whole new level.

If you oppose the war in Iraq, that is fine, it is your right.

When you call the very people that defend your freedom "unwelcome intruders" you hit a whole new level of disgusting. I heard about this today while driving and had to pull over to the shoulder of the interstate because I was literally too pissed off to drive.

I was gonna go off on a big rant here, but I'm already too pissed off about it to think straight.

Quote:
The demonstrators promptly said they would keep protesting outside the recruiting station at 64 Shattuck Square until the Marines leave Berkeley - which is what the City Council advised the service to do in a vote Tuesday night that called the Marines "unwelcome intruders."

The council also voted to allow members of Code Pink, the protest group that helped organize Friday's blockade, to park at a designated space in front of the recruiting office every Wednesday afternoon and operate a loudspeaker.

The council's action apparently made Berkeley the first city in the nation to call for the ouster of a military recruiting station from its borders.

Conservatives target Berkeley as protesters block Marines' door

I guess people will never cease to amaze me. Do they not know how or who gave them the right to protest?

Quote:
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protestor, the right to burn the flag."

That college needs to become completely privately funded. It is a disgrace that any tax money at all would go to a place like this.

Mojo, I don't think Berkley would have any difficulty getting funding if it were to become a private institution. I agree that they should lose their public funding if they discontinue military training.

The entire city needs to be removed from any benefit of state and federal government. For the damn city, all the way up to the City Council and the Mayor to support the protesters, and push to get the recruiters moved out of the city is just wrong. It is Anti-American.

I always pose this question to my Democratic friends. How can you be a part of a party that supports this? They have no answer other than, "I'm not rich so why would I vote for a republican? " They seem to be normal smart people, outside of the brain wash flock thing, when it come to politics!!

We're going a little far here? To say that the entire CITY needs to be cut off from all federal and local aid would impact countless people who have no say or involvement in this whatsoever. I also don't think theres a way to confiscate all of their own tax money legally.

Going to far? No, it's not. Come do this in the area where I live and somebody is gonna have to bail my ass out of jail after a pound the heads of some jackass protesters.

This goes beyond a simple "freedom of speech" thing. The damn city is running the military representation our of their entire city, and going back to the pathetic comments from back in the 60's calling people who defend out freedom, baby killers.

I generally ignore idiots these days, but something like this gets under my skin in a way that not much else could.

Mike, I think in your anger you may have missed my point about punishing those with no involvement in this. Would you really be in favor in that?

Thats all I was saying.

The city as a whole is responsible for electing the City Council and the Mayor of this city. This city as a whole supports these types of actions, and always has.

So yes, I am painting this entire city with a very broad brush.

Actually you may be surprised to learn that every major democrat candidate (Edwards, Obama, Clinton) has stated that they would make military recruiters' presence on college campuses MANDATORY. The main reason being that they believe recruitment should operate at all phases of society and not just focus on those who are economically disadvantaged.

As for Code Pink? I'm not a Democrat (politically independent) but I've been one of the biggest opponents of this war since long before it began and even I dislike them. Their methods are offensive and they do more to hurt their cause than help it.

You cannot deny that Code Pink, is an organization that is part of the Democratic umbrella. It has always amazed me, everything they try to stand for. How can one party be the party of the manufacturer, and the Party of the Environment. The Party that is for the poor people, but still perpetuates it with Govt. giveaways, making it unnecessary to want to find a job. Then to top it off, the Party is run by the richest people in America!!! The Party for the poor, but they donate much less to charity than the republicans. I look at the democrats as a party that offers everything to everyone, to control their vote. They don't want you to think, they want you to be part of the flock and act like sheep. Their actions are deplorable when you look at how their constituents have actually performed. They hold back peoples abilities to get ahead on their own. :takingshelter:

Unacceptable.

Oh well.....unfortunately, the blood of our brothers and sisters painted the way for these fools to act like this.

Only in America.

My oldest son joined the Canadian Forces 9 months ago. I told him when he finished High School he had to get a piece of paper for the wall first or get the fock outa the house. He went and did his chefs thing at school and work (not quite finished yet) and then joined the reserves. I'm very proud of him. 4 months ago (early Oct) they set up a recruiting thing at 1 of the malls. Some focking pinko-lesbian drove his jag through his station screaming something about baby-killers 5 min after he'd been relieved, narrowly missing a serious injury to his replacement (he had jumped and bounced off the hood of the Jag). Those focks should be put in with the general population in Abu-Graibl or Guantanamo for an extended prison sentence.

He was pretty shook-up and disillusioned for several weeks until Remberance Day ceremonies (Nov 11 in Canada). The support and clapping/cheering from the public in attendance reinforced his resolve and commitment.

ROTFLMAO, He just came running thru the door in full cameo (sp) and facepaint and kicked my wife outa the bathroom needing a shower. He hasta go to work and then hike back into camp (tents in bush) at 1am in a snowstorm. His map is drying in front of the woodstove now.

Yep, all your draft dodgers in the '60s/'70s settled in this area and this part of Canada was known as the left coast before that
