Day Two: What To Watch For

We're all still a little tired from yesterday, but thought I'd throw some names together for you to keep your eye on as we start up rounds four and beyond today. First, watch these veterans closely as they could all be headed to new teams by day's end:

WR Darrell Jackson - This one looks like a done deal already. Seattle should get a 4th round pick for him, and SF should have themselves a new starter. Awful deal for Seattle who gives a #1 for Branch and gets a #4 for DJax.
WR Randy Moss - Hard to tell if he'll still be moved, for something as cheap as a 4th. How the mighty have fallen, for that to even be considered. But you have to think the Raiders are ready to move on.
QB Trent Green - The Chiefs don't really want him back and they've now lost their trading leverage with the Fins having Beck, but Miami could still move a 5th or 6th for Green to give Beck a year to season.
OG Justin Smiley - This guy is a great young guard for the 49ers, but whispers are that they want to move him now so they don't have to lose him at the end of the season and get nothing back. If someone gets him for a second day pick, it would be an absolute steal.
DT Kris Jenkins - Could still go, the Panthers don't seem to want him back, but he's older and quite injury prone.
LB Eric Barton - The Jets supposedly want to move a few guys, as I've heard McCareins' name mentioned as well, and with as few picks as they have after the double trade up, it would make sense to see a few veterans go for late round picks today.

Alright enough vets. Who should we be keeping an eye on during the actual draft?

QB Isaiah Stanback, Washington - I'm not sure why, but this guy has been getting some buzz and could be the next QB selected.
QBs Troy Smith and Chris Leak - They will both probably go at some point today, but don't expect any teams to be leaping over each other for a chance.
QB Jordan Palmer, UTEP - Not a great prospect, but it's still Carson's little brother, so someone's bound to take a shot.

RB Antonio Pittman, Ohio State - Surprised to see this guy still on the board. Nothing that special about him, but he's just a guy who will carry the load and do his job. Strikes me as a Rudi Johnson sort of runner, and should be gone by now.
RB Michael Bush, Louisville - Was a supposed #1 pick before the injury this year. I was never really too sure why, but unless the injury is really awful, I would expect some team to make a move quickly for Bush today.
RB Darius Walker, Notre Dame - This guy won't get a lot of buzz but I always have thought he looked like a good pro prospect, and I could see him being a very nice change of back or 3rd down type at the very least.

WR Aundrae Allison, East Carolina - I'm very surprised to see Allison still there as he had been a fast riser and big buzz guy who was going mid to high 2nd in most mocks. I doubt the buzz was that far off, and he should go quickly today.
WR Rhema McKnight, Notre Dame - Great hands and routes, missed a lot of his career due to injury but could develop into a really nice WR2 or 3 type.
WR Steve Breaston, Michigan - He probably won't go too high, but the NFL is a copycat league and we all saw what a dynamic returnman meant to Chicago last year.
WR David Ball, New Hampshire - All you need to know about this guy is that he broke several of Jerry Rice's college records. Does that guarantee anything? No, especially not at New Hampshire. But it certainly makes him an intriguing pickup.

TE Ben Patrick, Delaware - I'm surprised to see this guy still on the board. He's a small schooler who will now be an excellent day two pickup for some team. Excellent blocker and probably would've been the #2 TE off the board if he went to a bigger school.
TE Scott Chandler, Iowa - If you watched Big 10 ball, you know this guy, because he makes an excellent security blanket and good blocker. Will make a very nice #2 TE for some team.

OT Doug Free, Northern Illinois - Surprised to see him still there as I had heard a lot of buzz about upside. I've seen a lot of Dallas interest in Free, but they already drafted Marten at OT, so they may not go after him now. He should go high in the 4th though.
OG Josh Beekman, Boston College - Solid prospect who can play anywhere on the line but center. His versatility should get him drafted pretty quickly today.
OG Manuel Ramirez, Texas Tech - Was a top 5 rated guard on most draft boards and could still start for a team that really needs help there.
C Leroy Harris, NC State - I admittedly know nothing about this guy, just that he's the top center on the board if your team needs one.

DE Baraka Atkins, Miami - He's always had all the talent in the world but just never quite seems to get it. Could be a bust and washout after a year, but could also develop into a long term starter.
DT Marcus Thomas, Florida - Like Atkins, this guy has first round talent, but here we have a ton of durability and character issues. Still we've seen teams take guys like Meriweather and Wright in this draft, so someone's going to take a chance eventually.
DT Ryan McBean, Oklahoma State - The top rated d-lineman left, but a little small for tackle. If you play in a 3-4 and are looking for a rushing end, this may be a good bet.

ILB Brandon Siler, Florida - Wow am I ever shocked to see this guy there! Most had him neck and neck with David Harris for the #2 ILB, and some had him projected to slip into the bottom of the first. Not sure why he's fallen, but he's the #1 overall available going into day two. Someone will get a huge steal.
ILB HB Blades, Pittsburgh - Like many others before him, Blades is supposed to be just a little too short to play MLB in the NFL. We'll see.
ILB Jon Abbate, Wake Forest - If you saw them play this year, you saw his story. He may not be a star at the next level, but you better believe he'll be a contributor and he'll play his heart out.
OLB Rufus Alexander, Oklahoma - Not a stand out guy and may not be fast enough for the NFL, but worth a decent look.
OLB Stephen Nicholas, South Florida - Seems to be the top rated OLB available on most boards.

CB Tanard Jackson, Syracuse - With the huge number of corners who went yesterday, it's pretty surprising to see Jackson go here. Could be a solid nickel corner and should be scooped up quickly.
CB David Irons, Auburn - Solid guy who does the dirty work, won't ever be a star but can be a really good role player.
CB Fred Bennett, South Carolina - A bit raw but talented and should be worth a look early today.
S Josh Gattis, Wake Forest - Was the heart of that defense this year along with Abbate and could still find himself in a starting role in a year or two.

K Mason Crosby, Colorado - If your team needs a kicker, you know this name. He can kick as far as anyone, but is he accurate enough?
P Daniel Sepulveda, Baylor - Best punter on the board with a booming leg and should go quickly off the board in round 4 or 5.

And finally, my take on the top 10 overall available:
1) Brandon Siler ILB
2) Antonio Pittman RB
3) Aundrae Allison WR
4) Ben Patrick TE
5) Doug Free OT
6) Tanard Jackson CB
7) Michael Bush RB
8) Troy Smith QB
9) Josh Beekman OT/OG
10) Mason Crosby PK

Michael Bush is a Raider
Randy Moss is a Patriot.

Haven't heard anything else on Darrell Jackson yet.

Yikes, man, you really aren't on your game. The Fins don't have a 5th round pick, remember the Harrington trade? Anyway, the Chiefs weren't willing to budge from demanding a 4th and the Fins told them to go fuck off by using their 4th to draft that DT. Two other things; apparently Mueller and Cameron want to keep Culpepper to see what he does when he's healthy and they haven't talked to the Chiefs about the Green trade since Friday.

I don't think the whole Green-as-a-Fin thing is necessarily dead, but I believe the trade is. The Chiefs are going to have to release him, at which point the Fins can pick him up without having to give up compensation.

Doesn't mean that they couldn't have made a trade and acquired a 5th to use in a trade.

Maybe, maybe not, but the Fins aren't willing to offer more than a 6th. The Fins are basically saying, "Fuck you, it's a sixth or nothing."

with allison going, this list is thinning quickly. all the top OL and DL disappeared quickly, and the top talent at RB and WR is gone as well. ben patrick is still an intriguing TE, mason crosby a very talented kicker, and the one guy who is plummetting that i dont understand at all is brandon siler.

talent pool is drying up quickly though.
