As another college football season winds down, the age old debate (since at least the mid 1990's) begins again. What bowl game will Notre Dame back it's way into and how many teams who are more deserving are going to get the shaft for the Catholics?
Not that I'm holding myself out as an expert, (as I sit here writing, drinking my Natural Light and eating jerky), but when is enough going to be enough?
Notre Dame has been hammered by every decent team they've ran into...

Husker D Earns Black Shirts
Once known for its tough defense, Nebraksa football had a tradition, established by accident in 1964, of wearing black practice jerseys, hence the moniker, "Black Shirts".
The tradition stood strong throughout the 70's and 80's, and was perhaps most feared with Tom Osborne's title teams of the 1990's. Enter Frank Solich and Bill Callihan, and the "luster" slowly wore off those proud jerseys, until ultimately they were ripped...

I knew it was coming, but it still hurt. For weeks the Texas Longhorns had stood toe to toe with Top 10 team after Top 10 team. The signs of wear really started to show in the 2nd half of the Oklahoma State game.
A physically worn team, even the Longhorns, are dead meat going into Lubbock and playing a fresh Texas Tech squad. But I didn't just take away gloom and doom.
1. Colt McCoy earned my respect - Spitting blood, playing a horrible game, the kid kept on fighting....

So I was wrong and Spread HD was just enough to secure Lord Paterno his first win in the Shoe in 30 years. This game was a hard fought bloody war won in the trenches.
However, if you were paying attention to the loathsome ABC broadcast team, you found the point where Ohio State lost the game. It wasn't when Pryor fumbled the ball away trying to be cute, a subject we will get to in a minute.... it was when Chris "Beanie" Wells, one of the leaders of the Ohio State football...

The Spread Offense - Good or Bad for Football? Maybe we'll see tomorrow.
Not to show my age, but I remember it well. The "K Gun" and "Run and Shoot" were as distant memories football wise as the triple option today. The year was 1996. Joel Berry and his Rogers, Texas High School Eagles football team were coming off a 6-6 season. Berry's Eagles had talent, but just not enough to compete with the big boys in Class 2A football at that time. Rogers had made the...
